The second most abundant mineral in the Earth’s continental crust is Quartz. Quartz is silicon dioxide – also called silica. Most are familiar with crystallized quartz and all its different colors – like purple amethyst, black smoky quartz, pink rose quartz, white milky quartz and more. It can also be green (prase), blue and orange. There is another category of quartz minerals called Chalcedony. These include jasper, many different kinds of agate, flint, chrysoprase and more.
